Italian Charm Bracelet Sizing Guide: How Many Charms Do You Need?

9 août 2025 | Published by Chericherilady

Most adult wrists need 17 to 19 links: our standard Italian charm bracelet has 18 links and fits a 6.3-inch (16 cm) wrist. Because these bracelets are made from individual links, you size them by adding or removing links rather than by length.

If the fit feels tight or pinches, see how to adjust an Italian charm bracelet.

Understanding Italian Charm Bracelet Measurements

Italian charm bracelets are typically made with standard 9mm links that connect through a spring-loaded mechanism. Each link adds about ⅓ inch (0.85 cm) to the total length of your bracelet.

This modular design makes them very versatile—you can easily add or remove links to achieve your ideal fit. No tools are required, though a charm tool can make the process quicker.

How to Measure Your Wrist

Option 1: Flexible Tape Measure

  1. Place the tape around your wrist at the narrowest point.
  2. Keep it snug against your skin (not loose).
  3. The measurement you get is your wrist circumference.

Option 2: DIY Method (Paper or String)

  1. Wrap a strip of paper or string around your wrist.
  2. Mark where it overlaps.
  3. Measure the length with a ruler.

The Perfect Fit Formula

Based on the charm size of 1 cm x 0.9 cm, use this chart to determine how many charms you’ll need:

Table showing wrist sizes and corresponding number of charms needed. 5.12 in / 13 cm → 15 charms 5.51 in / 14 cm → 16 charms 5.91 in / 15 cm → 17 charms 6.3 in / 16 cm → 18 charms 6.69 in / 17 cm → 19 charms 7.09 in / 18 cm → 20 charms 7.48 in / 19 cm → 21 charms 7.87 in / 20 cm → 22 charms 8.27 in / 21 cm → 23 charms 8.66 in / 22 cm → 24 charms

Standard Bracelet Sizes

Our standard Italian charm bracelet comes with 18 links, which fits a wrist of about 6.3 inches (16 cm). This size works well for most adults, but you may need to add or remove links depending on your wrist measurement.

  • Small wrists: 17–18 links
  • Medium wrists: 18–19 links
  • Large wrists: 20+ links

Finding Your Perfect Balance

  • Comfort Fit
    • Snug fit: Stick to the chart’s exact number.
    • Looser fit: Add 1–2 extra links.
  • Style Choices
    • Minimalist look: Leave some plain links in between charms.
    • Statement look: Fill every link with decorative charms.
  • Practical Note
    • Italian charm bracelets are slightly stretchy when putting them on or off, making them easy to slip over your hand while still fitting securely.

Fine-Tuning Your Bracelet

One of the biggest benefits of Italian charm bracelets is their adjustability:

  • Too Loose? Remove one or more links.
  • Too Tight? Add extra plain or decorative links.

To add or remove links, follow our guide on how to put charms on an Italian charm bracelet.

Are All Italian Charms the Same Size?

Most are. Classic Italian charms, including Nomination and Charmette, use the same 9mm-wide link, so the chart above works for any of them: a Charmette bracelet for a 16 cm wrist needs the same 18 links as ours. Before mixing brands, check that each charm is listed as 9mm.

Final Tip

You can always start with a standard 18-link bracelet and add or remove links later. That’s the beauty of Italian charm bracelets — they grow and change with you.
